Protests erupt after ECP decision against Imran Khan

Protest demonstrations and clashes with the security forces have started countrywide after the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case.

According to the 24News HD TV channel, PTI workers in a large number started protests in the capital and other cities like Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Peshawar and blocked several roads for traffic.

Clashes of protesters with the police were also being observed in different cities including Islamabad where security forces have used teargas to disperse the PTI protesters who are pelting stones at the police.

The aggressive protesters have also burnt tyres on the road to block the traffic on many highways and main roads in the cities.

The channel report said that a clash between police and protesters was observed at Faizabad square, an entry point between Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Police have used shells of teargases to disperse the protester.

Outside ECP Office in Islamabad
PTI workers gathered in front of the ECP Office and started protests against the decision. They chanted slogans against the ECP and the rulers. Some scuffles between law enforcement agencies and protesters were also witnessed.

Twin Cities—Islamabad and Rawalpindi
The channel report said that a clash between police and protesters was observed at Faizabad square, an entry point between Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Police have used shells of teargases to disperse the protester. PTI activists blocked the road by burning tyres. Due to the closure of the roads, travellers and local people faced difficulties while ambulances were also stuck.

Bara Kahu
In the Bara Kahu area of Islamabad, PTI works in a good number came out and blocked the main roads. A large number of people participated in the demonstration and chanted slogans in favour of Imran Khan. They said the masses will not accept the ECP decision as it was unfair and injustice.

The PTI workers staged protests at Shahdara, Main Ferozepur Road in Chongi Amar Sidhu, Thokar Niaz Baig Chowk and Jail Road as well. The protesters blocked all the roads linked to the Thokar Niaz Baig chowk including the highway of Multan Raod.

Metro Bus Service suspended

Observing the situation at Shahdara and other parts of Lahore city, the Mass Transit Authority suspended the Metro Bus Service.

Karachi
In the port city, soon after the ECP’s decision against Imran Khan, the PTI workers reached the party’s headquarters in Karachi—Insaf House and later blocked the Shahrah-e-Faisal. City police also reached the spot to tackle the situation. 

Peshawar
PTI started a protest in Peshawar at the spots of Hayatabad Toll Plaza and Peer Zakori Bridge against the ECP decision. The channel report said that PTI workers in a small number participated in the protest. The protesters chanted slogans against the ECP and the sitting government.

Haripur
PTI workers came to the streets against the decision to disqualify Imran Khan and started protests under the leadership of Akbar Ayub Khan. The PTI workers closed the Shah Maqsood Interchange for any traffic and chanted slogans in favour of their leader Imran Khan.

Takht Bhai
Against the decision of ECP, PTI workers gathered at the Malakand Road in Takht Bhai and staged a sit-in. the protesters chanted slogans against the rulers and blocked the road for traffic.  

Murree

The protesters of PTI come to the road in Murree after the ECP decision against Imran Khan and they blocked the GPO Chowk and burnt tyres. Due to a big protest, tourists faced difficulties in the movement. 

Narowal

Protesting workers in a big number closed the Juster Bypass in Narowal and raised their voices against the injustice of the ECP. They also burnt tyres in the square.

Attock

Angry workers of PTI blocked the Pindi to Peshawar highway at Attock city while the police also reached the spot to tackle the situation created by the protesters as long ques of vehicles have been observed on the both sides of the highway.

Swabi 

In the Swabi, KP Minister for Education Shehram Khan Tarkai led a protest rally at the Swabi Chowk and said the nation does not approved the biased cum political decisions of the ECP.

Khairpur 

In Sindh, PTI workers held a protest rally in Khairpur which was led by Syed Shakir. The rally announced to reject the ECP judgement.

Gujrat, Lala Musa, Kharian, Phalia 

PTI workers held a protest rally in Gujrat city and blocked the GT Road at Shaheen Chowk. Traffic between Lahore and Islamabad has badly affected. The protesters also come to streets in Lala Musa, Sarai Alamgir, Phalia and Kharian.

Chakwal

Protesters burnt tyres at Bhoon Chowk in Chakwal and blocked all the entrance ways of the city against the ECP decision. 

Shakargarh

A protest rally was held by PTI in Shakargarh. The protesters burnt tyres and blocked several roads in the city especially the Darman Chowk at Chammal Road.
