Petrol price raised by Rs4.61, diesel cut by Rs1.96

The federal government has increased the price of petrol by Rs4.61 per litre while reducing the price of high-speed diesel by Rs1.96 per litre, with the revised rates taking effect from September 22, 2026.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Energy's Petroleum Division on September 21, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products under the federal government's petroleum pricing mechanism.

The price of motor spirit, commonly known as petrol, has been increased from Rs389.14 per litre to Rs393.75 per litre, reflecting a rise of Rs4.61 per litre.

In contrast, the price of high-speed diesel has been reduced from Rs424.04 per litre to Rs422.08 per litre, a decrease of Rs1.96 per litre.

The new prices will come into effect from September 22.

The Petroleum Division said the revision had been necessitated by developments in the global market, including changes in Platts rates, premiums and other incidental costs.

The latest adjustment comes only days after the previous petroleum prices took effect on September 19, when petrol was fixed at Rs389.14 per litre and high-speed diesel at Rs424.04 per litre.

Under the latest revision, petrol consumers will face higher costs at the pump, while users of high-speed diesel will get limited relief through the Rs1.96-per-litre reduction.

High-speed diesel is widely used in the transport, agriculture and goods movement sectors, while petrol is primarily consumed by motorcycles, cars and other light vehicles.

The Petroleum Division said the revised ex-depot prices were determined in accordance with the government's existing pricing mechanism and reflected changes in international petroleum market indicators.
