Long spell of drought over as upper parts of country receive rain, snow 

Finally, after a long break, upper parts of the country received rainfall and snowfall, making the weather chillier, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

It rained in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Balochistan, while it snowed over the hills, which brought relief to the people from a long spell of drought.

The twin cities have been receiving light rain since last night.

The minimum temperature in Islamabad was recorded at 7 degrees Celsius on Monday morning, while the level of moisture in the air stood at 89 per cent.

Rain and snow lashed Chilas and its suburbs for the second consecutive day on Monday, making the weather extremely chilly and confining people to their homes.

In most of the areas, temperature dropped to below zero.

It snowed in the upper areas of District Diamer as Babusar Top, Nanga Parbat, Thor Top and Batogah Top were covered in thick layers of snow.

However, it led to great inconvenience for the motorists as traffic on different roads, including the Karakoram Highway, was suspended.

Landslides are also feared at different places of the Karakoram Highway.

Similarly, it rained in different parts of Abbottabad and adjoining areas for the second consecutive day.

While on one hand, the weather turned bitterly cold, the intermittent rainfall also led to power outages, plunging a large area into darkness.

Director General Galyat Development Authority Shah Rukh Ali advised tourists heading to Thandiani and other hill stations to take precautionary measures.

It also rained and snowed in different parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

Rain and snowfall were reported from Rawalakot, Bagh and other areas, which, while on one hand, brought a long spell of drought to an end, it also disrupted routine life.

Just like other parts of the country, it also rained in Khyber, which turned the weather extremely chilly.

Light snowfall was reported from Tirah Valley.

Drizzle was also reported from different areas of Punjab, including Lahore.

In Lahore, localities such as Thokar Niaz Beg, Chuhng, Multan Road, Shahpur Kanjran, Mughalpura, Shalimar Link Road, Canal Road, Lal Pul, Baghbanpura and Dharampura.

Plains of Punjab remain engulfed in fog

At the same time, the plains of Punjab remained engulfed in dense fog, prompting the authorities to close different sections of the motorway for traffic and advising motorists to travel during daytime.

M-2 was closed for traffic from Lahore to Kot Momin; M-3, from Lahore to Rajana, M-4, from Abdul Hakim to Pindi Bhattian, and M-5, from Multan to Rohri.

The visibility was also poor on other roads and highways as well.
