K-Electric asks NEPRA to increase electricity rate by Rs2.69 per unit

February 22, 2023 08:39 PM

Karachi Electricity consumers will suffer more as K-Electric Wednesday demanded National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to increase the Fuel Charge Adjustment by Rs2.69 per unit, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

NEPRA will hear K-Electric’s application for Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) of January and quarterly adjustment from October till December of 2022 last year on the 28th of February.

K-electric has filed an application for Rs7.36 decrease per unit in the quarterly FCA from October till December of last year. It was stated that under the uniform tariff policy applicable in the country, quarterly adjustments generally do not affect the consumers. The company said that the final decision is done by the Power Ministry, Government of Pakistan and NEPRA. Because of the increase in FCA for January 2023, price of electricity purchased from CPAG was higher than that in December. The price of electricity bought from CPAG in January was 67% more than the price in December. The FCA depends on the price of fuel used for power generation and change in generation mix.

The K-Electric representative stated that the FCA is added to the consumers' monthly bills after verification and approval by NEPRA.
