FBR likely to reduce customs values for used mobile phones
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has revised the customs valuation of imported used and refurbished mobile phones, a move expected to reduce the overall tax burden on such devices significantly, 24NewsHD TV reported.
According to an official notification issued by the Directorate General of Customs Valuation, Karachi, the newly fixed customs values will apply exclusively to old and refurbished mobile phones, and not to brand-new devices.
The revised valuation aims to align assessed values more closely with prevailing international market prices.
The notification further stated that stakeholders may file a petition for review within 30 days of the issuance date if they have objections or suggestions regarding the new valuation.
Officials indicated that as a result of the revised customs values, the total PTA taxes imposed on imported used phones are expected to decline substantially, making these devices more affordable for Pakistani consumers.
