ECC allows private sector to import 2.5m tons wheat

The meeting of federal cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Monday allowed the private sector to import wheat, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The private sector has expressed interest to import 2.5 million tonnes of wheat.
The decision was taken at the ECC meeting held in Islamabad under the chair of Advisor to Prime Minister on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh.
Approving the policy guidelines in order to bring down the prices of wheat and flour, the meeting also asked the Punjab province to fulfill the needs of other provinces as per their requirements.
To assist the health sector, the meeting also nodded to tax exemption on oxygen and gas cylinders for three months that has become necessary for the Covid-19 patients.
The ECC meeting also sanctioned 45 acres of land for an intelligence agency in Islamabad. The ECC meeting also approved a supplementary grant for Pakistan Navy.
The ECC also okayed Rs2.5 billion supplementary grant for the Capital Development Authority and Rs400 million supplementary grant for the Islamabad police force.
The ECC withdrew the proposal to sanction honorarium to the officers of ministries, divisions and departments.
