Railways Minister Azam Khan Swati has decided to meet Prime Minister Imran Khan to take the matter of modernisation of the department, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Tuesday.

According to sources, the minister is all set to have an important meeting with the premier for the purpose. They said during the meeting the matter of core importance including Karachi circular railway would come under discussion.

The main objective of the meeting between the duo is to the resolve the outstanding issues of railway terminals, track modernisation and other steps to bring in betterment, the insider said.

Reportedly, Azam Swati told the Senate Standing Committee on Railways on Monday that the tracks were being upgraded on a war footing.

He said the prime minister, who had been requested for Rs23 billion funds to fix 473km of dangerous track, had directed the officials concerned to submit PC-1 for funds' release.

As per the PM’s directive, the railway line from Tando Adam to Khanpur would be upgraded to enable railway traffic to pass at 140km per hour. He told the meeting that the workshops were incapable of repairing coaches, Rs32 billion had been spent signal system and the matter was raise with the NAB chairman.
