PM wants sugar, wheat supply ensured

Prime Minister Imran Khan presided over a meeting on measures to meet sugar and wheat need on Tuesday.
During the meeting, a report on stock, demand and supply as well as the import of the essential commodities presented to the Imran Khan.
Punjab chief secretary told the PM that mill owners have been asked to make sure the supply and start the crushing season by November 15.
They were told categorically that the government would not let challenge the state writ, the chief secretary said, adding violation will make them pay fine of Rs5 million per day.
The prime minister issued directives to ensure supply at all cost as profiteers and hoarders will face the music. He directed keeping him update about the import of foodstuffs regularly.
A couple of weeks ago, a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan decided to allow the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) along with the private sector to import wheat to ensure sufficient availability of the commodity in the country.
The prime minister was briefed on the situation of availability of wheat, price of wheat and flour, and import of sugar. Ministers, advisers, provincial chief secretaries and senior officials concerned meeting.
