US welcomes Pakistan statement that no foreign conspiracy behind govt change

State Department says strong, prosperous Pakistan critical to US interests

The United States government on Friday welcomed the statement of Pakistan’s National Security Committee (NSC), saying a strong, prosperous, and democratic Pakistan is critical to Washington’s interests, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Responding to queries about the current political situation in the Pakistan, State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Jalina Porter said that they have continued to say all along that there is absolutely no truth to those rumours that US was involved in any conspiracy for regime change in Pakistan.

She, however, underscored that the United States valued its long-standing cooperation with Pakistan and has always viewed a strong, prosperous, and democratic Pakistan as critical to the US interests.

QUESTION: Today, the newly elected prime minster of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, chaired the meeting of national security committee and senior military and civil officers attended that. And this meeting was to – about Imran Khan’s allegation of US government. So, the press release we got, it states that there has been no foreign conspiracy. How do you see this?

MS PORTER: Thank you. So, as we have continued to say all along, there’s absolutely no truth to those rumours, so we welcome this statement. And I would also like to underscore that the United States values our longstanding cooperation with Pakistan and has always viewed a strong, prosperous, and democratic Pakistan as critical to US interests.
