PSB approves key reforms, reviews federations’ performance in 34th meeting

The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has taken strict measures to enforce accountability in sports federations during its 34th board meeting held in Islamabad on Wednesday.  

Chaired by PM’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah Khan, the board revoked provisional registrations of three federations for non-compliance and imposed conditions on others.

The session welcomed two new board members—Major Gen (retired) Irfan Ashraf and Andaleep Sindhu.

Rana Sanaullah said he hoped the new members would play a key role in the promotion of sports in the country.

“It is essential that sports federations become smarter and allow new and competent individuals to lead,” he said, urging board members to support reforms.

He assured that the Ministry and the PSB would continue to fully support all federations in their development efforts.

Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) also came under scrutiny for failing to provide financial accounts despite receiving funding.

The board expressed its displeasure over PHF’s conduct.

Regarding the PHF's participation in the FIH Pro League, the board decided that PSB would seek clarification in writing, requesting the reasons and objectives behind joining the international event.

The board also approved the formation of a subcommittee to assess the inclusion of mountaineering as an official sport. 

Additionally, the registration of several federations—including Chak Ball, Paragliding and Hand Gliding, and Canoeing—was revoked due to their failure to submit required documentation following preliminary affiliation.

The registration of Basketball, Long Range Shooting, and Archery federations was made conditional on their incorporation with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

Rana Sanaullah emphasized the need for sports federations to adopt modern governance practices, urging them to bring in fresh leadership.
