One robber killed, another arrested in Lahore police encounters

One bandit was gunned down, and another was arrested in an injured condition during two police encounters in Lahore, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

These police encounters took place in Hanjarwal and Race Course areas of Lahore.

In the first police encounter, which occurred in the Hanjarwal area, a dacoit was killed, and his other companion escaped from the scene. Police said that the dead dacoit was involved in more than a dozen criminal cases.

A Crime Control Department (CCD) team from Hanjarwal was taking the arrested accused for recovery when some accused who were riding a motorcycle attacked the police team in bid to free their colleagues from police custody.

During heavy exchange of fire, one dacoit was killed, and another colleague escaped from the scene, taking advantage of the darkness.

Later, the CCD team shifted the dead body of the dacoit to the hospital’s mortuary for post-mortem. CCD Hajarwal also constituted a police team to apprehend the colleague of the dead accused.

The second police encounter took place in Basti Saidan Shah near Race Course in Lahore. The police signalled a suspicious motorcycle to stop, after which the accused opened fire on the police team.

Race Course police started firing in retaliation, during which one dacoit was arrested in an injured condition.

The dead dacoit was later identified as Javed Iqbal, who was a resident of Faisalabad. Police shifted the dead dacoit to the hospital.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Civil Lines, Munazza Karamat, said that the dead dacoit was nominated in more than 100 criminal cases.

The SSP revealed that special teams were constituted to apprehend the colleagues of the dacoit. She said that the police crackdown against the criminals will continue.
