Work on the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is going in full swing, CPEC Authority Chairman Lt-Gen (r) Asim Saleem Bajwa said on Monday. Addressing an energy seminar, he said the coronavirus outbreak has not halted the progress on the mega project.

“Development work is underway at full space.”

The chairman said the CPEC fully recognises the growing need for energy and it encompasses several solutions for meeting the energy needs of the country.

Soon the development will be witnessed at the western route of the CPEC as well, he informed the audience.

Bajwa also said the travel distance between Karachi and Peshawar would be cut by half with the completion of the motorway.

About the exploration and transportation of coal from Thar, he said the related matters have been finalized and soon cheaper electricity will be generated.
