Customs intelligence foils sugar smuggling attempt in Quetta

In a major operation against sugar smuggling, customs intelligence officials in Quetta foiled an attempt to smuggle Chinese sugar to Afghanistan on Thursday.

The officials intercepted a vehicle carrying 40 tons of sugar on Hazar Ganji bypass and seized the contraband worth Rs. 2 crore 80 lakh.

The officials said that the value of the seized sugar and vehicle was Rs. 2 crore 80 lakh and that the operations would continue on the instructions of the federal government.

Sugar smuggling has been a serious issue in Pakistan as the country faces a shortage of the commodity and rising prices.
