Crime rate registers 70pc decline in Punjab: IGP Usman Anwar

IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has said that crime rate has registered 70 percent decline owing to the effective working and hard work of Punjab police, reported 24NewsHDTV Channel. 

IG Punjab was addressing a press conference with Additional IG and head of Crime Control Department (CCD) Sohail Zafar Chatha and Special Secretary Home Fazlur Rehman. 

Dr Usman Anwar has claimed that crime rate has declined to 70 percent while robbery incidents reduced by 75 percent. 

Punjab IGP said according to 15 call data, robbery cases data in Punjab has gone to negative. 

The aim of the press conference is to discuss the ongoing campaign against weapons. Dr. Usman Anwar said CCD took radical measures to curb shooters and criminals across the province. 

He said CCD took quick action on rape and murder cases. 

Dr. Usman Anwar said Punjab Chief Minister had invested billions of rupees in the police department. He said police has reduced crimes against women and children as Punjab Chief Minister declared women and children as a red line. 

He said Virtual Child Police Station were established in the province. He said Punjab police has reunited more than 2,500 children with their parents while over 9,000 missing women were brought back to the families. 

He said Punjab government has spent Rs3 billion on CCD while half a billion rupees were spent on borer check posts. 

Dr. Usman Anwar made it clear that the Chief Minister did not accept political recommendations in even one appointment and transfer and no political recommendation could make a difference in the performance of the police. 

Additional IG CCD Sohail Zafar Chatha said CCD was aimed at curbing the organized crime in the province on the orders of Chief Minister. 

He said CCD was dealing with crimes like robbery, murder, rape, vehicle snatching. He said there was a significant decrease in murder incidents. Sohail Zafar Chatha said vehicle snatching has decreased by 62 percent. 

Sohail Zafar Chatha said now Punjab Chief Minister has decided to make Punjab free of weapons. He said a target of 75 percent reduction in gun crime has been achieved during the last four months. 

Sohail Zafar Chatha said on illegal weapons, the government has decided to give 15 days to surrender weapons. Otherwise legal action will be taken against illegal weapons. 

Sohail Zafar Chatha said licensed weapons will also be checked and under the new law, licenses will also be canceled. 

Additional IG said there was no standard for private security companies, which was now being improved. Additional IG said the recruitment procedure for private security companies was being regulated as per new requirements. 

Sohail Zafar Chatha said licenses of private security companies were also being regulated.
