Hasan Raheem’s ‘Peechay Hutt’ hits major Hollywood milestone with Netflix film
Pakistani singer Hasan Raheem has scored another major international milestone as his hit track ‘Peechay Hutt’, featuring the Justin Bibis, has landed in Netflix’s new Hollywood dance-comedy film ‘Best of the Best’, giving the popular Coke Studio song another global spotlight after its appearance in Marvel’s Ms. Marvel.
The song, performed by Hasan Raheem with the Justin Bibis and featuring production by Talal Qureshi, is part of the soundtrack of Best of the Best, which started streaming on Netflix on September 18. The film revolves around two childhood friends, Maya and Anjali, who join a competitive Bollywood-fusion dance team at UCLA and work towards the US championship.
Originally released through Coke Studio Season 14 in February 2022, “Peechay Hutt” quickly became one of Hasan Raheem’s widely recognised tracks. Hasan wrote the song, while its narrative was developed by Hasan and Xulfi. Talal Qureshi and Xulfi were involved in its composition, arrangement and production, with Qureshi also contributing to the song’s catchy hook.
The track brings together Hasan’s vocals, the distinctive chorus of the Justin Bibis and Talal Qureshi’s electronic production. Its energetic sound and instantly recognisable “Peechay Hutt” hook have now found a place in a film built around dance, making the Pakistani hit a natural fit for the movie’s Bollywood-fusion musical setting.
Directed by Lena Khan, Best of the Best stars Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Maya and Priyanka Kedia as Anjali, while Hasan Minhaj appears as Professor Hamza Latif. The story explores friendship, sisterhood and self-acceptance against the backdrop of competitive college dance.
“Peechay Hutt” is also featured alongside several well-known names on the film’s soundtrack. The musical lineup includes tracks associated with BLACKPINK, ENHYPEN, Hanumankind and A.R. Rahman, along with Pakistani, South Asian and international artists.
The Netflix appearance comes after another major international moment for the Coke Studio favourite. In 2022, “Peechay Hutt” was featured in Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel, appearing among the songs used in the series. The track’s inclusion in the Marvel production introduced Hasan Raheem, the Justin Bibis and Talal Qureshi’s music to an even wider international audience.
The song has also continued to attract listeners years after its original release, with its official music video crossing 28 million views on YouTube, according to recent reports.
After making its mark through Coke Studio and appearing in Marvel’s Ms. Marvel, “Peechay Hutt” has now reached Netflix as well.
