PTI first party to put corruption on national agenda: PM Imran

April 25, 2021 10:58 PM

Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that a nation is destined to be destroyed when its people in power go corrupt.

Speaking via video link on the occasion of PTI’s 25th foundation day, the prime minister said the PTI was the only party, which put corruption on the national agenda. He said the PTI was the only party to launch a campaign against corruption. He said he formed the party more than two decades ago to fight corruption.
“I had studied political science in the university and had played professional cricket in Britain, therefore, I had realised it very early that the nations don't get destructed due to a lack of resources or bombings or war, but it is corruption which destroys the nations,” the prime minister said. He said that twenty-five years ago, he and his friends named the party after the concept of Insaf (justice) because, without justice, corruption cannot be eliminated. He said he decided to join politics to make a change. He said that many people joined his party and left but he never gave up despite all odds. He said he had learned not to give up on cricket grounds. He said he wanted to give this message to the youth that a man only achieved success in life when he continued to move forward without looking back.
Recalling his journey, he said after a long struggle, the PTI held a big public gathering at the Minar-e-Pakistan on October 30, 2011. He then talked about the 2013 elections and his 26-day dharna against alleged rigging in the elections to send the message across.
He said he was proud of the PTI government's achievements over the last 2.5 years, giving details of the improvements Pakistan made on the economic front. He said the construction sector in Pakistan was developing rapidly as well as agriculture and manufacturing industries, and car sales, among others.
Speaking about the future course of action and wealth creation to further develop the country, PM Khan said that the government is creating a new city in Sindh and a central business district in Lahore which will add billions to the national exchequer. The prime minister said that The PTI had taken many steps to make Pakistan a welfare state.
