Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has said that PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif is the guarantor for Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan and he will face disqualification if he does not honour his word.
Talking to a private TV channel, the federal minister for science and technology said if former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is really ill, he should have submitted his medical reports to the government, but in reality the embassy has not been given access to Nawaz.
He said that Nawaz Sharif’s escape from the country is not the fault of doctors, but his medical reports as the doctors based their decision on the observations made by said reports. He said the government has nothing personal against Nawaz Sharif but he has been convicted in the Azizia Steel Mills case. He will have to serve his punishment or take the plea bargain route, he added.
The minister said the first letter from the federal government to the British government regarding Nawaz was written in March but progress has been sluggish on account of the coronavirus. He said that Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed a full inquiry into the medical reports by the Punjab government and the investigation will determine which officials were involved. Anyone involved in tampering with the reports will be arrested, he added.
