16,000 cops dispatched to Azad Kashmir for poll duty

More than 16,000 policemen from all the provinces and Gilgit and Baltistan have been dispatched to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to perform security duty during the general elections, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

According to details, 14,000 policemen from Punjab, 2,000 from Sindh, 500 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 200 from Balochistan and 100 from Gilgit and Baltistan are included in the contingent.

The order for the deployment of policemen was issued by the Central Police Office Operations, Punjab.

About 1,550 cops from Lahore, 100 from Nankana Sahib, 140 from Sheikhupura, 110 from Kasur, 250 from Gujranwala, 100 from Mandi Bahauddin, and Hafizabad will perform their duties in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir general elections.

Earlier, to ensure the peaceful and transparent elections for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, AJK Government has requested the Federal Ministry of Interior to provide additional police personnel. 

In this regard, personnel will be drawn from the police forces of various provinces to maintain law and order during the electoral process. From Punjab, a total of 14000 personnel will perform their duties during the AJK elections.
