Sindh govt plans prison reforms

The Sindh government has decided to reform prisons in the province.

The Human Rights Department has also joined the effort and launched an awareness campaign about the prison reforms. The awareness campaign was launched from Central Jail, Karachi.

Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister on Human Rights Rajveer Singh Sodhu visited Central Jail Karachi. He was accompanied by officers of the Human Rights Department. Rajveer met the prisoners lodged in the Central Jail and got to know about the problems they were facing. The special assistant also checked the food prepared for the prisoners and reviewed the cleaning arrangements of the jail and the kitchen.

Rajveer Singh informed the prisoners about human rights reforms. A meeting was held with the jail authorities under the chairmanship of Rajveer Singh. At the meeting, Prisons Inspector General Fida Hussain Mastoi gave a detailed briefing. Many projects have been started to improve the jails, Mastoi said.

“If we make prisons centres of reforms, crime rate will decrease,” Rajveer Singh said. The PPP leadership has a clear directive that all kinds of steps should be taken to improve prisons, he added.
