‘I should not have banned Dangal,’ regrets Marriyum Aurangzeb
Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has expressed regret over her swift action of imposing a ban on Bollywood’s megahit movie Dangal right after taking the position as Minister for Information and Broadcasting.
The minister appeared in a podcast session with popular host and actor Ahmed Ali Butt where she was asked about something which she believes she should not have compromised.
While responding, Marriyum said that she should not have outlawed Dangal, a movie starring Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan in the lead character.
Aurangzeb in the discussion admitted that she was a newcomer to the ministry, and she did not watch the film personally at that time.
“The decision was made during the meeting with the Central Board of Film Censors after their various suggestions and recommendations,” she added.
The minister, while shedding remorse, added that she realized her hasty decision after watching the movie herself, and that is something she still carries with herself.
Dangal is a biographical film paying tribute to Mahavir Singh Phogat, a pehlwani amateur wrestler who trains his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari to become India's first world-class female wrestlers.
