Marriage is our national sport, says Nadia Khan
Popular Pakistani actress and host Nadia Khan has candidly criticizing society’s growing obsession with marriage and rishta culture. During a recent conversation, the actress questioned why topics like unemployment, inflation, and career struggles are often overshadowed by constant discussions surrounding marriage.
During an appearance on Rise and Shine, Nadia Khan openly shared her thoughts on how marriage dominates conversations in Pakistani society and television dramas.
Here’s what she said:
“Shadi hamara ek national spot or national fareeza, duty or festival sab kuch yehi hai. Hamary dramay dekhain apko lagy ga Pakistan mein koi masla nahi hai, na unemployment, na career, na mehngai.” (Marriage is our national sport, national obligation, duty, and festival; it is everything to us. If you watch our dramas, you would think Pakistan has no other problems no unemployment, no career struggles, no inflation).
The actress further expressed frustration over how quickly storylines revolve around marriage proposals.
She added: “hamara masla sirf ek hai kay bas rishta ajaye, kisi tarha rishta ho jaye , or bas ek larki hai 2 larky hain, shuru ky 5 mintue mein hi rishtay py baat a jati hai aur phir mujy aag lag jati hai mein bolti hoon ky real life mein aisa nahi hai. Real life mein dosry masly ziyada important hai.” (Our only issue seems to be getting a rishta somehow. It is always one girl and two boys, and within the first five minutes, the conversation shifts to marriage proposals. That really frustrates me because real life is not like this. In reality, there are many other issues that are far more important).
