Auditor General recommends closure of CPEC support project

Terming the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) support programme of Rs732 million a ‘wastage’ of public money, the auditor general of Pakistan (AGP) on Tuesday recommended closing down the project, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The AGP, in the audit report for the financial year 2021-22, also recommended conducting an inquiry to ascertain the reasons for the project’s failure.
He wrote in the report that that the support programme had failed to achieve its objectives. “Those working on the project did not make an effort to achieve the basic goals for which it had been conceived,” he said, and added, “The employees kept working as support staff of the chairman CPEC Authority.”
