Voting for SCBA election underway

The voting was going on for the annual election of the Supreme Court Bar Association on Thursday in which candidates from Asima Jehangir group and Hamid Khan group are facing each other in a tight contest, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

A tough contest is expected between Hamid Khan group’s presidential candidate Ahsan Bhoon and Asima Jehangir’s presidential contestant Latif Khosa. Two polling stations have been set up in twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. 

As many as 40 polling booths have been set up in the Supreme Court Lahore Registry. Candidates' polling camp offices have also been set up outside the Registry.

While the road leading from GPO Gate to AG Office has been closed for normal traffic.

As per schedule, the polling was held at 8.30 am and it will continue till 5 pm and the vice-chairman of the Punjab Bar Council is performing the duties of the Presiding Officer.

Results of the election are expected to be announced tonight.

In the elections, 3121 lawyers including 1267 lawyers from Lahore have been declared eligible to cast their votes for the Supreme Court election.

There will be a one-on-one contest between Mohammad Ahsan Bhoon and Sardar Mohammad Latif Khosa for the presidency.

Lawyers are quite enthusiastic on the day of balloting. Who will become the SCBA president, the lawyers are going to decide today.

During past 11 years, 9 times the presidential candidates of Independent group won and 2 times the Professional group’s candidates won. 

From Nov 1, 2021 till Nov 28, 2021, Lala Afridi of Independent group became SCBA president. 

From Nov 1, 2019 till Oct 30, 2020, Syed Qalb-e-Hassan of Independent group remained SCBA president. 

From Nov 1, 2018 till Oct 30, 2019, Aman Ullah Kinrani of Professional group became SCBA president.

From Nov 1, 2017 till Oct 30, 2018, Syed Kaleem Ahmad Khursheed of Independent group became SCBA president.

From Nov 1, 2016 till Oct 30, 2017, Rashid A Rizvi of Professional group remained SCBA president. 

From Nov 1, 2015 till Oct 30, 2016, Barrister Syed Ali Zafar of Independent group became SCBA president.

From Nov 1, 2014 till Oct 30, 2015, Fazal Haq Abbasi of Independent group remained SCBA president. 

From Nov 1, 2013 till Oct 30, 2014, Kamran Murtaza of Independent group became SCBA president. 

From Nov 1, 2012 till Oct 30, 2013, Israrul Haq Mian of Independent group remained SCBA president. 

From Nov 1, 2011 till Oct 30, 2012, Muhammad Yaseen Azad of Independent group became SCBA president. 

From Nov 1, 2010 till Oct 30, 2011, Asima Jehangir, the head of Independent group became SCBA president.
