Over 20 ships left stranded in Chabahar as US blockade of Strait of Hormuz continues

Over 20 ships have got stuck in Chabahar, Iran’s port city, due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by the US, taking toll on Iran’s economy, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.

In a statement on X, the CENTCOM has said that the US forces have limited Iran’s economic activities as the country’s maritime trade has been affected.

On average, five ships docked at Chabahar port prior to the US blockade.

On Tuesday, Iran offered to end its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz if the U.S. lifted its blockade on the country and ends the war in a proposal that would postpone discussions on its nuclear programme.

It is unlikely that the US President Donald Trump would accept the offer, which was passed on to the Americans by Pakistani mediators and would leave unresolved the disagreements that led the US and Israel to impose war on Iran on Feb. 28.

And US Secretary of State Marco Rubio appeared to rule out any deal that does not cover Iran’s nuclear programme.

“We can’t let them get away with it,” Rubio said on Monday. “We have to ensure that any deal that is made, any agreement that is made, is one that definitively prevents them from sprinting towards a nuclear weapon at any point.”
