WHO delegation visits FJMU

World Health Organization (WHO) Country Head Dr Palitha Gunarathna Mahipala Monday led a delegation to a meeting at the Fatima Jinnah Medical University with Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal in the chair

The delegates included Dr Khalil Ahmad Sikhani, Dr Jamshed Ahmad, Technical Officer Dr Yahya Gulzar, Quality Care Officer Dr Amna, Program Manager Nutrition Dr Fawad and Consultant Nutritionist Miss Nazish Zahra.

Prof Khalid Masood Gondal warmly welcomed the distinguished guests while Pro-Vice Chancellor Kamran Khalid Khawaja, Principal Noreen Akmal, Registrar Muhammad Nadeem Kasuri, Prof Bilquis Shabbir, Prof Naveed Akbar Hotiana, Prof Aliya Zahid, and faculty attended the meeting.

Professor Bilquis Shabbir briefed the moot about the achievements of Fatima Jinnah Medical University in August 2023 with reference to educational and healthcare services.

She informed that on August 9, Prof Kamran Khalid was honored with the Best University Teacher Award 2022 by the HEC. The Dean Nursing/ Chairperson of the Department of Medicine/ Director QEC Professor Bilquis Shabbir was recommended for Presidential Pride of Performance Civil Award on August 14. a Lifetime Achievement Award, the Laurels of Honor Award, was presented to former Dean of Basic Sciences and Dean Undergraduate, Professor Munazza Khalid on August 21 and the fourth achievement was the Academic Excellence Award 2023, presented by the Honorable Governor of Punjab, to the Worthy Vice Chancellor FJMU Prof Khalid Gondal in recognition of his unprecedented services in field of Medical Education, research and service delivery on August 25.

The visiting dignitaries took a tour of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for the inauguration of a five-day training session for malnourished children at the Stabilization Centre in the Department of Pediatrics in Fatima Jinnah Medical University. The aim of the training session is to ensure the delivery of the best healthcare facilities to malnourished pediatric patients.

Prof. Khalid Gondal, while addressing the audience, especially thanked the Chief Guest, Dr Palitha and his team for facilitating the training session. He also welcomed the participants from different districts who are attending the training session. He announced to start postgraduate programs in preventive pediatrics very soon. He said that prevention is better than cure, so we have to promote awareness, preventive measures, the provision of nutrition, and breastfeeding for malnourished children. He also congratulated Dr. Rameeza Kaleem for gracefully organizing this event.

Dr. Palitha Mahipala commended the unwavering dedication and pioneering efforts of the Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid and the entire university administration and faculty for their outstanding contributions. The distinguished accolades garnered by FJMU's exceptional individuals were highlighted by Dr. Palitha Mahipala. He lauded Professor Kamran Khalid for receiving the esteemed Best University Teacher Award 2022 from HEC on August 9, 2023. He acknowledged the outstanding achievements of Professor Bilquis Shabbir on her recommendations for the prestigious Presidential Pride of Performance Civil Award, announced on August 14, 2023, as a testament to her exceptional dedication. The narrative of achievement continues as Professor Munazza Khalid was congratulated on receiving the distinguished Laurels of Honor Lifetime Achievement Award for her lifetime service. This recognition was bestowed on her by the Hon’ble Governor of the Punjab on August 21, 2023. Finally, he congratulated the esteemed Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid for achieving the Academic Excellence Award 2023, by the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab on August 27, 2023.

In context of these unremarkable achievements of FJMU, he mentioned the quotations of Albert Einstein, Abraham Lincoln, and Quaid E Azam and said that these quotations fulfilled the achievements of FJMU with pure dedication. He expected to get more achievements for FJMU in the upcoming year. He also congratulated the VC for providing the best healthcare facilities to ailing humanity under his visionary and dynamic leadership. He highlighted the uniqueness of Fatima Jinnah Medical University's preventive pediatrics department in a distinctive manner.

In the end, Prof Khalid presented a shield to the Hon’ble Guest, Dr. Palitha Mahipala, followed by a group photo.
