National Assembly session summoned on Monday evening

On the advice of Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned the session of the National Assembly of Pakistan for Monday, September 1, at 5 pm.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the upcoming session, to be held at the Parliament House in Islamabad’s Red Zone, will deliberate on a number of important national issues.

The National Assembly, also known as Aiwan-e-Zairin, is the lower house of Pakistan’s bicameral legislature, with the Senate functioning as the upper house. 

As of 2023, the Assembly comprises 336 members, including 266 directly elected representatives and 70 reserved seats for women and religious minorities distributed among political parties based on proportional representation.

Each Assembly functions for a five-year term, unless dissolved earlier by the President on the advice of the Prime Minister. The Constitution explicitly restricts the Prime Minister from dissolving the House unilaterally.

The session called by President Zardari will be the latest in a series of parliamentary sittings convened to address critical political, economic, and flood challenges confronting the country.
