Pak Army reopens strategic Skardu Highway with bridge built in 6 days

The Pakistan Army has restored traffic on the Gilgit-Jaglot-Skardu Road after completing a temporary bridge in a record six days and re-established the main land route between Baltistan and the rest of the country.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the Army's Corps of Engineers constructed the temporary bridge at the Sasi Haramosh crossing, replacing the structure that had been washed away during recent heavy rainfall and flooding. The emergency project was completed after six days of continuous work under difficult conditions.

With the bridge now in place, road access to Skardu and the wider Baltistan region has been fully restored. The route had been closed after floodwaters swept away the original bridge, bringing all traffic along the Baltistan Highway to a standstill.

The closure had caused significant difficulties for local residents, travellers, tourists and freight-transport operators, while also disrupting the movement of essential supplies to the region.

Building the temporary bridge presented a major engineering challenge because of the strong river current and poor weather. Despite these conditions, officers and soldiers from the Pakistan Army's Force Command Northern Areas Corps of Engineers worked around the clock to complete the structure.

The reopening of the Jaglot-Skardu Highway has allowed commercial activity to resume and restored the transport of food and other essential goods to the area.

Local residents, tourists and members of the business community welcomed the timely restoration of the road link and expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the Pakistan Army in completing the emergency bridge.
