Punjab replaces PDMA chief again
The Punjab government has appointed Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa as the new director general of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), marking the fourth change in the organisation's top leadership within a few months, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.
According to an official notification issued on Wednesday, the appointment comes during an active monsoon alert, with disaster management authorities continuing to monitor heavy rainfall and potential flooding across the province.
Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa replaces Umar Abbas Mela, who has been transferred from the post.
The frequent leadership changes have highlighted continued instability within the PDMA since the transfer of former Director General Irfan Ali Kathia.
Following his departure, Tahir Wattoo was appointed to lead the authority but did not assume charge of the office.
Umar Javed was subsequently appointed as director general of the PDMA but was transferred after serving for only about a month.
His successor, Umar Abbas Mela, also remained in the position for a brief period before being replaced.
