Council of Islamic Ideology to take up suicide, family laws issues

The Council of Islamic Ideology has called an important meeting on Tuesday to deliberate on several legal and religious matters, with a four-point agenda issued ahead of the session, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

According to the agenda, the council will review the Federal Shariat Court’s judgment concerning attempted suicide and its legal and Islamic implications.

The meeting will also consider the Islamabad High Court’s decision in the Amara Waqas case.

Another key item on the agenda is the Family Laws Bill, 2026, introduced by Member of the National Assembly Sharmila Faruqui.

The council will also deliberate on the issue of eye cornea donation and transplantation.

Members are expected to review the religious and legal dimensions of cornea donation and transplant procedures during the meeting.

The Council of Islamic Ideology gives recommendations to parliament and the government on whether laws are in line with Islamic injunctions.

The meeting is expected to discuss the agenda items in detail before formulating recommendations.
