The National Security Committee condemned the actions of the banned Tehreek-e-Lubaik Pakistan (TLP) and said that no concessions would be made to the TLP for further violations.

According to a statement issued after the meeting, Federal Ministers, National Security Adviser, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Chiefs of the three Armed Forces, DG ISI, IB and FIA and other senior civil and military officials were present on the occasion.

The committee was briefed on the internal situation in the country and the TLP protests, the statement said.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said that no group or element would be allowed to disturb the law and order situation and put pressure on the government.

According to the statement, the meeting expressed deep concern over the loss of life and property during the TLP protests and the committee vowed that no further concessions would be made to disrupt the rule of law.

The statement said that the National Security Committee paid tribute to the professionalism and forbearance of the police, in which four personnel were martyred and more than 400 were injured.

The committee reiterated that restraint should not be construed as a weakness; the police have the right to defend themselves to protect life and property.

It was said during the meeting that the state recognizes the right to peaceful protest but the TLP has deliberately damaged public and private property and tortured officials, an attitude that is not acceptable.

The NSC said that the TLP would not be given any leeway for further violations of the law nor would it accept any illegitimate demands, nor would it be allowed to challenge the rule of the state.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Imran Khan directed that all measures be taken to protect the lives and property of the people and maintain the rule of the state.

Earlier, three policemen were martyred and several others were injured in a clash between banned TLP leaders and activists and police in Lahore on October 23.

Two days ago, at least four policemen were killed and 263 injured in clashes between angry TLP activists and police near Muridke and Sadhuke.

Talks are underway between the government and Tehreek-e-Lubaik Pakistan, but so far no results have been reached.
