Opposition in Punjab Assembly Tuesday staged a protest demonstration in front of the assembly's building to underscore their demand for immediate action to alleviate the plight of farmers, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Shouting slogans and waving banners, the opposition members, the majority of them representing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf voiced their staunch opposition to what they described as the "economic killing" of farmers.
They raised slogans against the wheat procurement policy demanding the government raise the wheat purchase target.
They also staged a token sit-in and held that the delay in wheat procurement and price crash would add to farmers' woes.
Protesters said they were being forced to sell wheat at Rs 2700 to Rs 3200 per 40 kg against the Rs 3900 per 40kg support price announced by the government.
Following the impassioned demonstration, opposition members returned to the Punjab Assembly, where they vowed to continue their advocacy on behalf of farmers.
