Attaullah Tarar announces measures following Muhammad Ahmed incident
Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has strongly condemned the incident involving senior actor Muhammad Ahmed and said respect for senior artists must be ensured at all costs, reported 24NewsHD TV Channel.
Reacting to the incident that took place on the set of a television drama, the Federal Information Minister described it as regrettable and condemnable.
He proposed establishing a mentorship programme under the leadership of senior actor Muhammad Ahmed to help train young artists and promote professionalism in the entertainment industry.
The information minister also announced that a meeting of television artists would be convened soon to discuss the matter. He said recommendations would be prepared after consultation with relevant personalities.
Attaullah Tarar said effective measures would be taken to prevent such incidents in the future and to promote mutual respect within the artist community.
The revelation of the incident involved veteran actor and writer Mohammed Ahmed, who told that a younger actor had mocked his appearance, acting style and hairstyle in front of the cast and crew during a shoot, leaving him feeling publicly humiliated.
Although he did not initially name the actor, social media later identified Fahad Sheikh, who responded by apologising privately and publicly with insisting there was never any intention to disrespect the senior actor.
Muhammed Ahmed later urged the public to stop harassing those involved, saying he had no complaints against the cast, crew or director and asking everyone to move on.
