The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has started an investigation into a more than Rs20 million financial scam in the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).
According to reports, this amount was embezzled in the name of payment for tyres of jets in 2017. The FIA has registered a case and launched an investigation into the alleged embezzlement on the orders of the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan.
FIA Deputy Director Abdur Rauf Sheikh has said that a forensic audit of all PIA expenditure from 2008 to 2017 has been completed. Now the FIA will identify the corrupt PIA officials. An amount of more than Rs20 million was paid for tyres of jets in 2017, but the airline has not received even a single tyre for its jets so far.
The AeroAvian Company was responsible for supply of tyres to the PIA. The AeroAvian Company initially portrayed itself as representative of international company GoodAir. A former chairman of the PIA approved enlistment of the AeroAvian as a vendor. When contacted by the FIA, GoodAir said it has no link with AeroAvian.
