Nepra approves Rs4.34 hike in electricity tariff

At a time when people are already suffering on account of rising prices of essential items, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Wednesday dropped another bombshell on them by approving Rs4.34 per unit increase in the electricity tariff, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The increase was announced under the head of monthly adjustment of July.
NEPRA officials said that due to the violation of merit order, the Authority had to pay over Rs7 billion extra.
Similarly, they added, the shortage of LNG put an additional burden of over Rs6 billion on the NEPRA which they ultimately had to pass on to the consumers.
It is worth-reminding here that the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested for Rs4.69 per unit increase in the power tariff.
