Guinea junta chief Mamady Doumbouya elected president: election commission

Guinea's junta leader Mamady Doumbouya has been elected president, securing 86.72 percent of the first-round vote, according to provisional results announced Tuesday by the General Directorate of Elections, in polls devoid of main opposition leaders.

Doumbouya had pledged not to run for office after seizing power four years ago. Voter turnout stood at 80.95 percent, according to DGE head Djenabou Toure.
