Karachi e-challan system under scrutiny after Hyderabad resident gets wrong fine

Serious questions have been raised over the transparency of Karachi’s e-traffic challan system after a citizen from Hyderabad received a traffic fine for a violation that allegedly took place in Karachi— a city he said his car never visited, 24NewsHD TV reported on Friday.

According to details, Saifullah Khan, a resident of Latifabad, Hyderabad, received an e-challan of Rs 10,000 at his home for not wearing a seat belt while driving in Karachi.

Saifullah, however, claimed that the vehicle shown in the printed image on the challan did not match his car’s model or appearance, even though the license plate number printed on the ticket matches his own vehicle.

“The picture on the challan clearly showed a different car. My vehicle was in Hyderabad on that date and never went to Karachi,” Saifullah told reporters.
He added that he has never committed any traffic violation and that his car had not been to Karachi at all.

The incident has raised concerns about possible flaws or technical errors in the e-challan identification and verification system operated by the Karachi Traffic Police.
