PM orders strategy to tackle demand, supply of essential goods

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the authorities concerned to devise a comprehensive medium and long-term strategy to tackle the economic and financial impacts of rising trends in international market prices.

He was chairing a meeting in Islamabad today regarding the formulation of a strategy to curtail economic effects on public in the wake of current regional situation.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need to develop the strategy in close coordination with all relevant ministries and institutions, keeping in view the stability and growth of all sectors of the economy. He further instructed that effective measures be proposed to minimize the impact of rising production costs on exports and overall national output in the context of international circumstances. He also stressed the need to fully utilize available resources and opportunities to prevent adverse effects on agricultural and industrial production.

Shehbaz Sharif noted that many countries are facing difficulties in maintaining the balance of supply and demand of essential commodities amid the current global situation. He, however, expressed satisfaction that Pakistan is effectively addressing these challenges in a timely and efficient manner.

The Prime Minister appreciated the relevant institutions for taking proactive and effective steps to prevent any emergency in the supply and demand of essential items.

He said progress is underway on a comprehensive strategy to enhance exports of surplus production after fulfilling domestic requirements of food items. Reaffirming the government's commitment, he said all necessary measures will continue to ensure economic stability, growth, and public welfare.

The Prime Minister also commended the coordinated efforts of all stakeholders in addressing financial and economic challenges and directed further enhancement of inter-institutional cooperation. The meeting was informed that all relevant ministries and institutions are reviewing the economic impacts of the current situation on a daily basis.
