Nepal police recover gold, cash worth millions from flood-buried bank lockers

Nepal police have recovered gold, cash, and important documents worth hundreds of millions of Nepalese rupees from bank lockers buried under debris following devastating floods in the country, 24NewsHD TV reported on Tuesday.

According to foreign media reports, police spent several hours searching the debris of the Krishi Vikas Bank’s Trishuli Dhunge branch before locating the buried lockers in the bank’s basement.

Police said the lockers contained gold worth around 500 million Nepalese rupees and about 15 million Nepalese rupees in cash and several important documents.

The recovered valuables were moved to a secure location.

Video released by Nepal Police showed officers removing large amounts of debris to gain access to the bank’s basement. Heavy machinery, including excavators, was then used to remove the lockers from the damaged building.

The floods have caused widespread destruction across Nepal, burying buildings and vehicles under several feet of mud and debris. Several banks in the affected areas have also suffered extensive damage.
