It’s a Shame! Umair Jaswal calls out men amid women’s body-shaming debate
Pakistani singer and actor Umair Jaswal has seemingly joined the ongoing conversation surrounding the treatment of women, sharing a thought-provoking message about modesty, masculinity and moral character amid backlash over remarks made about Bollywood star Katrina Kaif’s appearance.
Taking to Instagram, Umair shared a reflective post invoking the example of Prophet Yusuf (Joseph), stressing the importance of modesty and self-restraint while questioning the standards some men follow when speaking about women.
“When Hazrat Yusuf (Prophet Joseph) lowered his gaze just once, Allah made him a king. Modesty (Haya) is not a small thing; it is a part of faith (Iman),” he wrote.
The singer further added, “It’s a shame how many of us men have forgotten the kind of men we were meant to look up to.”
Although Umair did not name anyone, his message has emerged amid a heated debate over comments made by Pakistani entertainment commentator Dr Ejaz Waris regarding Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif’s appearance following motherhood.
The discussion began after Katrina, who recently became a mother, faced online commentary over her physical appearance following a public appearance. Images of the actress prompted some social media users to compare her current appearance with how she looked before pregnancy.
Dr Ejaz Waris subsequently faced criticism over a post that mocked Katrina’s changed appearance, including referring to her in relation to husband Vicky Kaushal. The remarks drew condemnation online and sparked a wider debate over body shaming and the scrutiny women face over their physical appearance.
