New video shows American woman Onijah Andrew dancing in psychiatric ward of Karachi hospital
A new video has surfaced of the American woman Onijah Andrew Robinson dancing in the psychiatric ward of a hospital in the port city. She recently arrived in Pakistan to marry a young boy in Karachi.
Onijah, who has two children, flew from New York to Karachi to meet 19-year-old Nidal Ahmed Memon who she met online. She later ended up being admitted to the psychiatry department at Karachi's Jinnah Postgraduate Hospital for a mental health evaluation before finally returning to the United States.
Onijah was rejected by Memon's family, leaving her stranded in Pakistan with an expired visa. However, Onijah was determined and she camped outside Memon's house in Karachi, which she found locked.
Seeing her plight, Pakistani activist and YouTuber Zaffar Abbas shared her story on social media, prompting Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori to offer support, help with her expired visa, and arrange a ticket back to the US.
Despite this assistance, Onijah refused to leave and began making a series of increasingly unreasonable demands. She held press conferences, offering updates on her situation and commentary on Pakistan. She also demanded $3,000 per week from Memon and demanded Pakistani citizenship, reports Times of India.
In another interview, she claimed to be married to Memon and stated that they were planning to move to Dubai soon and start a family. Her demands escalated, with Robinson requesting $100,000, including $20,000 in cash, from the Pakistani government that week. When questioned about the purpose of the money, she said, "It's against my religion to tell y'all my business."
Her rapidly changing statements raised concerns. Onijah'sson, Jeremiah Andrew Robinson, claimed his mother had bipolar disorder and was mentally ill.
