IHC suspends PIERA notice on school's scholarship data

The Islamabad High Court has suspended a notice issued by the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PIERA) that required a private educational institution to submit data on the provision of free education to 10 per cent of deserving students.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir heard a petition filed by Zaafran Elahi and suspended the regulator's notice dated 11 June 2026, which had been issued to a private educational institution located in Islamabad's I-10 sector.

During the hearing, the petitioner's counsel, Advocate Abdul Waheed Qureshi, told the court that his client operates the educational institution in I-10 and had been directed by PIERA to provide details of scholarships offered to deserving students. He argued that the regulator's notice violated fundamental rights and requested that it be declared unlawful.

After hearing the preliminary arguments, the court suspended the 11 June notice and issued notices to the federation, PIERA and the other respondents, directing them to submit their replies.

The court also ordered that the petition be heard together with other related cases and adjourned further proceedings until the first week of August.
