The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday heard the contempt of court petition filed against SP Saddar Hafeezur Rehman Bugti in police checkpost case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

DIG Legal Dr Moeen Masood and SP Bugti, the respondent, attended the court proceedings.

LHC Chief Justice (CJ) Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan on the occasion ordered the police officials to produce Akram Saeed, the petitioner, in the case.

When the CJ asked the DIG Legal as to whether he was consulted in the case, the latter replied in negative.

When the DIG Legal sought an unconditional apology for the SP Saddar from the court, the CJ remarked that the SP had lied in the court. “There was a time when an officer could not even think of lying in the court,” he said, and told the defendant either to resign or face the consequences of his action.

He made it clear that if the SP deserved punishment as per law, he would not be spared.

While hearing the same case on Monday (June 7), LHC Chief Justice Qasim Khan had remarked that he was aware that the police would make his life ‘difficult’ after his retirement date which is July 5.

The LHC CJ remarked that after July 6, he and his family’s lives would be in danger from the police. “Police have made a state within a state,” the CJ remarked.

The court has already rejected the unconditional apology from SP Saddar and ordered him to appear before the court otherwise he would face six-month conviction.

CJ Qasim Khan also said that nations fail when they forgive their rich and punish the poor.
