PMA urges PM to ensure security of doctors after Quetta acid attack

The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has expressed serious concern over the acid attack on a female doctor in Quetta and called on the federal government to ensure the safety and security of healthcare professionals across the country.

PMA Central Secretary General Dr Abdul Ghafoor Shoro, in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, urged the government to take immediate measures to protect doctors and medical staff.

He said doctors across Pakistan should be provided with adequate security and facilities so they can perform their duties without fear.

Dr Shoro said many specialist doctors were reluctant to work in Pakistan due to the prevailing conditions, while a growing number of skilled medical professionals were leaving the country for opportunities abroad.

He warned that the country was already facing a serious shortage of doctors and that continued insecurity could further worsen the situation.

The PMA secretary general said doctors were serving patients day and night despite limited resources and difficult working conditions.

"It is becoming increasingly difficult for doctors to work in these circumstances," he said.

The PMA urged the prime minister to take practical steps to improve the security and working environment of doctors and healthcare workers in the wake of the Quetta acid attack.
