Aleema Khan praises CJP for showing courage, seeks justice for jailed former PM

Aleema Khan, elder sister of the jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, on Tuesday thanked Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and said all eyes were on the top judge regarding the matter of justice for Khan.

She said that Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had the right to justice. She praised the chief justice for showing courage and allowing a lawyer to meet Khan in Adiala Jail. Aleema said it now remains to be seen what the jail administration tells Barrister Salman Safdar.

According to Aleema, Safdar is representing the court and he will not give any message or speak to the media. She said that Safdar will submit his report to the court tomorrow after his meeting with Khan.

“We have come here for our meeting,” she said, adding that Safdar will inform the Supreme Court about Khan's condition.

Aleema welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision and said judges should show courage because, in her words, the judicial system has collapsed. She added that they have been facing an uncertain situation for the past two and a half years and are only asking the courts for justice.

“At this time, the test is of the judicial system. Now let’s see how much the orders of the chief justice are complied with,” Aleema said.
