Two kids die of measles in Dherki

Two more children lost their lives due to the outbreak of measles in Sindh city of Dherki, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

The death toll has now reached four in a week. More than two dozen children are under treatment in private hospitals, and six children of the same family have also died.

The dead children were later identified as Khadija, 5, and Sajid was 8. A total of four children died due to measles in a week in Dherki.

The health department miserably failed to curb the situation. Residents of the area have appealed to health authorities to take immediate notice of the situation and establish emergency vaccination camps to prevent further loss of life. 

They urged officials to launch a door-to-door immunization drive in the village to protect vulnerable children.

Pakistan Paediatric Association said that vaccination against preventable diseases is every child’s basic right, and the government is striving to ensure coverage, but the lack of cooperation from parents remains a major challenge.
