Rawalpindi court acquits two brothers, criticises Morgah Police over alleged torture and illegal detention

A district court in Rawalpindi has acquitted two citizens and criticised the conduct of local police over allegations of torture and illegal detention.

Sessions Judge Nasir Hussain expressed anger at the actions of Morgah Police Station while issuing a decision on a petition filed under Section 22-A by an affected citizen.

In the ruling, the court acquitted Zulfiqar Kazmi and his brother Hasnain, stating that the police failed to present any concrete evidence to support the case registered against them. The decision noted that the police were unable to prove the claims mentioned in the case.

According to the case details, Morgah police had taken the two brothers into custody over an alleged violation of the Punjab Tenancy Act. The petitioners alleged that the police illegally detained them and subjected them to torture before registering a false case.

The court rejected the police’s stance and cleared both citizens of the charges. It also allowed them to initiate legal action against the station house officer (SHO) of Morgah police station and other officials involved.

While disposing of the petition, the court directed the affected citizens to approach the Rawalpindi City Police Office (CPO) for further legal action and sent the matter to the office for necessary proceedings.
