Prime Minister Imran Khan and his Planning Minister Asad Umar have filed a petition in Islamabad High Court challenging the notices being issued to them by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for violation election code, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The ECP Wednesday night had issued a notice to Prime Minister Imran Khan for violating the code of conduct of local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The ECP had also issued notices to KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Federal Minister Murad Saeed, provincial ministers Mohibullah and Dr Amjad Ali.
The notice was issued by the ECP’s District Monitoring Officer, Swat. He directed Prime Minister, Chief Minister and federal and provincial ministers to appear in person or through counsel on March 18.
Talking to newsmen after formally filing the petition in IHC on Thursday, Asad Umar argued that after the issuance of presidential order public officeholders are eligible to run their campaigns at the public level.
