PMA condemns PMDC decision to take disciplinary action against 15 doctors

The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Lahore has strongly condemned the decision by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) Disciplinary Committee to suspend the medical licenses/registrations of 15 doctors for six months

The PMDC took this action based on recommendations from the Punjab government, citing allegations against the doctors regarding the disruption of patient care, blocking of roads, closure of wards and emergency services, and the posting of inappropriate statements on social media.

While the PMA has always emphasized that patient lives must not be jeopardized during doctors' protests, but the procedure adopted in this instance is deeply concerning. PMA Lahore says that a comprehensive, impartial, and transparent investigation was essential before taking action against the doctors. Ignoring the doctors' explanatory statements violates their professional and constitutional rights. If the doctors staged a protest, it was driven by legitimate demands; ignoring these demands while singling out the doctors constitutes an act of vendetta rather than justice.

PMA Lahore officials have demanded the immediate suspension of this PMDC action and called for a thorough investigation by an independent committee. The affected doctors must be granted a full opportunity to present their case. The doctors' legitimate demands should be heard seriously, and concrete steps taken to resolve them. Transparency and justice must be ensured in the future, avoiding unilateral actions. The PMA Lahore appeals to all doctors to stage peaceful protests within constitutional and legal boundaries and under no circumstances put patients' lives at risk.
