Punjab Assembly speaker presides over virtual session of Business Advisory Committee

Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi chaired a virtual session of the Business Advisory Committee on Wednesday.

Deputy Speaker Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari, Law Minister Muhammad Basharat Raja, Nadeem Kamran, Samiullah Khan, Mohammad Moavia, Hassan Murtaza, Abbas Ali Shah, Khalil Sindh, Secretary Assembly Mohammad Khan Bhatti and Inayatullah Lak were among the attendees.

The speaker shared SOPs regarding the budget session in the Business Advisory Committee meeting, saying general discussion will be held on four days (Thursday June 18, Friday June 19, Monday June 22 and Tuesday June 23).

It was unanimously agreed during that cut motions will be presented on agriculture, food, education, health, local government and law and order departments, no voting will take place on cut motion, however, voting will be on the demand for grant and quorum will not be pointed out.

He continued:  “Every member will be given five minutes for budget discussion, however, leader of the opposition and the parliamentary leaders will be given more time with the permission of the speaker.

“It will be appropriate if the parliamentary leaders provide the lists of members desirous of speech to the secretary assembly by Thursday. Discussion and voting including cut motion on the annual demands for grants will take place on Wednesday (June 24) and Thursday (June 25).

Proceedings on the finance bill will take place on Friday (June 26), general discussion on Monday (June 29), discussion and voting on the supplementary demands for grants on Tuesday (June 30).”

The speaker said as the opposition did not bother to follow SOPs so a protest would be registered in front of their seats. Opposition members appreciated the efforts of the Speaker Punjab Assembly on convening the session and running the budget session smoothly.
