Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced the withdrawal of its five-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) programme and started revising the academic structure and text, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

According to details, PMDC will also review the BDS programme for house job and internship framework.

A final decision will be taken after a comprehensive and detailed review of the BDS five-year programme.

The final details of the BDS five-year programme will be released after the completion of detailed review.

The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has already informed the certified medical and dental colleges in this regard.

Earlier on September 15, 2026. The PMDC officials told the Senate Standing Committee on Health that the BDS would remain a four-year programme.

The committee was informed that the PMDC’s previous notification regarding the duration of dental education had been withdrawn.

The Senate committee directed the PMDC to issue a notification formally announcing the four-year duration of dental education.
